Code reviews in the test version of WhatsApp reveal that a paid subscription option for ad-free usage is on the agenda, while users will still be able to use the app for free with ads.
Code reviews in WhatsApp's test version 2.26.3.9 revealed that a paid subscription option may be added for ad-free use of the application. While Meta announced last year that ads would be shown in the Status and Channels tabs, it is believed that the company aims to balance the reactions to this new model.
ADS WILL BE REMOVED WITH SUBSCRIPTION
According to the statements in the test version, users who prefer a paid subscription will be able to use WhatsApp without seeing ads in the Status and Channels tabs. The code clearly states that users who pay monthly will transition to an ad-free experience.
FREE USAGE WILL CONTINUE
The tested texts also reveal that the subscription system will be optional. Users will be able to continue using WhatsApp for free with ads. Ad-free usage will only be offered to those who purchase a subscription. Additionally, it appears that informational messages regarding this new model within the application are also in the testing phase.
PRICE AND APPLICATION TIMELINE NOT CLARIFIED
It has not yet been announced when the ad-free WhatsApp subscription will be implemented, in which countries it will be offered, and what its price will be. Meta's previous limitation of ad-free subscriptions for Facebook and Instagram to certain countries indicates that a similar approach may be taken with WhatsApp.
