In a shooting incident during a football match in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, 11 people were killed and 12 were injured. The attack occurred when armed individuals who came to the stadium opened fire randomly on players and spectators.
At least 11 people were killed and 12 others were injured during a shooting that took place during an amateur football match in the city of Salamanca, located in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico.
THE GREEN FIELD TURNED INTO A POOL OF BLOOD
In a statement made by municipal officials, it was noted that the attack occurred on Sunday around 5:20 PM local time at a football field in the Loma de Flores area of the city. According to eyewitness accounts, several armed individuals arrived at the stadium in two trucks, got out of the vehicles, and opened fire randomly on players and spectators.
The statement reported that 10 people died at the scene, while one person died in the hospital. It was stated that the injured were taken to the hospital.
The state prosecutor's office announced that an investigation into the incident had been initiated. As of Sunday night, no arrests related to the incident had been reported, while state police, security forces consisting of the Mexican National Guard and the Mexican army, launched an operation to capture the attackers.
Guanajuato, which has become one of the states in Mexico where violent incidents are most commonly experienced in recent years, has seen most of the attacks resulting in fatalities due to disputes between organized crime groups.
