After the 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir at 00:24 last night, two more earthquakes of 4.1 and 4.2 magnitude occurred in succession this morning.
The frightening earthquakes continue in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, which has been declared a disaster area.
According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 00:24, with its epicenter in Sındırgı. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 11 kilometers, was also felt in surrounding provinces and districts. It has been reported that no negative incidents occurred in the region.
TWO MORE EARTHQUAKES WITH A 9-SECOND INTERVAL
After numerous aftershocks that lasted until morning, two more earthquakes occurred at 10:34 with a 9-second interval. The district was first shaken by a 4.1 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake.
"THE AFTERSHOCKS WILL CONTINUE"
In an assessment regarding the earthquakes in the region, Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan pointed out that the activity in Sındırgı has an aftershock character and stated the following:
"The ongoing earthquake storm in Sındırgı produced an aftershock of M5.2 at 00:24. The aftershocks will continue. However, it is not expected to exceed a magnitude of 4.5."
