Roksana Lecka, a 22-year-old social media influencer and caregiver working at a private kindergarten in London, which charges a monthly fee of £1,900 (approximately 79,000 TL), has been found guilty of abusing 21 children. Lecka, who was tried at Kingston Crown Court, faced 24 separate charges of mistreatment against children.
"I WAS SLEEPLESS, I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT I DID"
The incidents at Riverside Nursery in Twickenham came to light in 2023 when parents noticed bruises and scratches on their children's bodies. Starting in March, families documented the situation and reported it to the police, while the nursery management suspended Lecka on June 28, 2024.
Lecka admitted to seven charges involving severe acts of violence, including repeatedly kicking one child in the face, punching a girl, and slapping another baby after taking them out of the crib. Lecka denied the remaining 17 charges, stating in her defense, "I smoked marijuana with my boyfriend all night, I was sleepless, I don't remember what I did."
FOUND GUILTY OF 14 CHARGES
After hours of deliberation, the jury found Lecka guilty of violence against a total of 21 children. The female caregiver was convicted of 14 of the 17 charges she denied and was acquitted of 3. Following the verdict, she was led out of the courtroom in tears.
TEARS AND SHOCK IN THE COURTROOM
As the verdict was announced, some parents in the audience were brought to tears. The security camera footage shown during the trial revealed moments where Lecka repeatedly kicked a small child's face, punched a baby, pulled children's hair, pinched them, and threw them to the ground, which drew significant outrage. In another clip, Lecka was seen taking a baby harshly from her lap while vaping and then hitting the baby's face. During the violent acts, she was observed looking around to check if other staff could see her.
DEFENDED IT AS "FOR PLAYING"
In court, Lecka attempted to explain most of the assaults on the children as "jokes," "games," or "misunderstandings." For the hard blows to one child's stomach, she said, "I was just playing around from the sides," and for the hair-pulling, she stated, "I mixed it up with my fingers."
WILL BE TRIED IN CUSTODY, SENTENCE TO BE ANNOUNCED LATER
Lecka's sentence will be announced at a later date in Kingston Crown Court. Due to the devastating impact of the case, jury members have been exempted from being called for another case for 10 years.
