Severe rains and snowstorms in South Africa's Eastern Cape province have resulted in the deaths of 101 people. Search efforts are ongoing for missing children, in addition to approximately 4,000 people who have been left homeless.
The death toll from the flood disaster caused by heavy rains and snowstorms affecting the Eastern Cape province of South Africa has risen to 101.
101 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE FLOOD DISASTER
In a statement from the Eastern Cape provincial government, it was reported that 101 people, including 38 children, lost their lives in the flood caused by heavy rains from June 9 to 12. The statement shared that the bodies of 94 identified individuals have been handed over to their families, and search efforts are ongoing in the area for 2 missing children.
Approximately 4,000 people were left homeless due to the flood disaster caused by heavy rains that occurred on the southern and eastern coasts of the country from June 9 to 12.
The government declared a national state of disaster on June 19 due to the damage caused by adverse weather conditions in the KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and Free State provinces, which disrupted essential services.
