Climate activist Greta Thunberg's entry into Venice was banned following her action that painted the city's symbol, the Grand Canal, green. Thunberg and other activists were also fined 150 euros.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg, along with the Extinction Rebellion group, painted the Grand Canal green during a protest they organized in Venice.

The action came immediately after the COP30 climate summit. Activists carried out their campaign under the slogan "Stop Ecocide." A large banner was hung from the Rialto Bridge, while the paint poured into the water turned the canal a dark green color.

48-HOUR ENTRY BAN TO THE CITY

Venice police imposed a 48-hour entry ban on Thunberg and other activists.

The local government of Venice described this action as "disrespectful to the city's history and sensitive architecture." Each activist was fined approximately 150 Euros.

DISRESPECT TO HISTORY

Veneto Region Governor Luca Zaia assessed the action as "disrespectful to the city's heritage, history, and fragile structure."
