The investigation into the incident in Beyoğlu, where a person put a belt around a woman's neck and made her walk on her hands and knees while saying "Meow" and "Women are like wax. They become what you train them to be," has been completed. The prepared indictment requests that both suspects be sentenced to up to 7 years and 10 months in prison.
In Istanbul's Beyoğlu, an investigation has been completed regarding an incident that occurred on October 29, where a video emerged on social media showing a person putting a belt around a woman's neck like a leash and saying phrases such as "Meow," "Women are like wax. They become what you train them to be," and "Women always obey." The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the individuals involved were identified as Uras U. and Nurgül B., while two other individuals were also included in the indictment as 'suspects.'
IT WAS STATED TO BE OF PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE NATURE
In the prepared indictment, it was noted that suspect Uras U. acted in agreement with the other suspect Nurgül B., who put the belt around her neck like a leash and said phrases such as "Meow," "Women are like wax. They become what you train them to be," and "Women always obey, come here." The indictment mentioned that the video in question was shared on social media by suspect Uras U., and it was stated that there was no doubt that Uras U.'s act of putting a belt around the other suspect's neck and asking her to walk on her hands and knees by pulling the belt constituted physical and psychological violence.
The indictment indicated that the video aimed to create an opinion that such acts of physical and psychological violence should be carried out against women, who are a segment of the public. Considering the public nature of the location where the video was recorded, the manner in which the act was carried out, the fact that the video was shared from a publicly accessible social media account, and the number of views, it was conveyed that the act was beyond humiliation and disrespect, aimed at inciting violence against a segment of the public, fostering hostile attitudes, and reinforcing such behaviors.
"I DID NOT INTEND TO HUMILIATE WOMEN"
The indictment stated that the act in question was related to violence against women, and it was noted that it was conducive to disturbing public peace and order, and that an open and immediate danger to public safety arose due to the sharing of the video. In the indictment, which included the statement of suspect Uras U., it was reported that he said the video was shared among friends, that it was a humorous video, and that there was no intention to humiliate women.
"I ACCEPTED THE OFFER TO BUY FOOD FOR MY CATS"
The other suspect, Nurgül B., stated in her testimony that she met Uras U. three months ago, that the suspect introduced himself as a social media influencer, and that he offered her to act in his videos, saying, "I accepted the offer to buy food for my cats. The purpose of filming the video was to increase the number of followers. I had no intention of committing a crime."
REQUEST FOR UP TO 7 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS IN PRISON
In the prepared indictment, it was requested that suspects Uras U. and Nurgül B. be sentenced to 1 year and 10 months to 7 years and 10 months in prison for the crime of 'publicly inciting hatred and hostility in a chain manner.' The trial of the suspects will begin at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.
