In Mardin, truck driver Engin Acar passed away four hours after undergoing surgery at a private hospital for complaints related to his left hip bone. His family claimed that a chain of negligence occurred and filed a complaint against the hospital and the doctor. Hospital officials stated that the death was not related to the surgery and that the definitive result would be determined by an autopsy.
Engin Acar, a father of three living in Mardin, underwent surgery at a private hospital due to complaints of pain and calcification in his left hip bone. Four hours after the surgery, which took place on June 30, Acar collapsed and passed away.
THE FAMILY FILED A COMPLAINT Following the death of 30-year-old Engin Acar, who was buried in the Kabala neighborhood of Artuklu district, his family accused the hospital and healthcare personnel of negligence and filed a complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Health. According to the family's claim, Acar exhibited abnormal swelling and cold sweating after the surgery, and he was seen making unconscious movements. The family alleged that despite notifying the nurses, there was a delay in intervention. Hospital officials stated that the death was not related to the surgery and that the definitive result would be revealed by the autopsy report.
"AFTER THE SURGERY, HE STARTED HITTING HIS HEAD AGAINST THE WALL AND PULLING HIS HAIR" Mesut Acar, Engin Acar's brother, stated that his brother went to the hospital with complaints of pain and a diagnosis of calcification in his left leg, saying, "After the X-ray and MRI taken at the private hospital, the doctors said that surgery was necessary, that he was in the second stage, and that a prosthesis would need to be placed in the next stage. The surgery fee was collected, and the procedures were carried out. We deposited the fee on Friday, and an appointment was made for the surgery on June 30. He was taken for surgery. 'You can drink water 45 minutes after the surgery, and you can eat 2 hours later,' they said. My brother was given water after 1 hour, and after eating a few bites 3 hours later, he started to vomit. We informed the nurse about his condition, and they said, 'It's normal; he has relaxed.' At that moment, his body became ice cold. He started sweating cold, and his body began to swell. He started hitting his head against the wall and pulling his hair," he said.
"HE STRUGGLED FOR 4 HOURS, AND IN THE END, WE LOST HIM" Acar, stating that his brother suffered greatly for 4 hours in the hospital after the surgery, said, "He vomited blood from his mouth and nose and then passed away there. Half an hour after he died, the doctor came, and for 2 hours, CPR was performed, but they could not revive him. The calls we made to the nurses for 4-5 hours are recorded on the hospital's security cameras. It can be seen how many times they came and went during that time and how many times the nurse came. There was a chain of negligence in the hospital. We will use all our legal rights," he said.
"MY BROTHER WAS MURDERED ON LEGAL GROUNDS" Mesut Acar, stating that they filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office, said, "We requested an autopsy. As a family, we are complaining about the hospital, the staff, and the doctor who performed the surgery. We also reported our complaint by calling both the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Health Communication Center (SABİM) at 184. My brother was murdered on legal grounds," he stated.
