A 70-year-old woman in the United States has been charged with allegedly trading an adopted child for a monkey that she wanted to add to her collection of exotic animals. It has been claimed that the woman previously mistreated other children she had fostered.

Brenda Deutsch, a 70-year-old woman in the U.S., was charged with exchanging an adopted girl for a monkey in the state of Texas. It was alleged that the woman had also mistreated other children she had adopted or fostered over the years.

FOSTERED APPROXIMATELY 200 CHILDREN

According to a report by Mirror, the elderly woman faced charges of "child abuse," "neglect," and "endangering a child" in connection with the allegations. While police continue to investigate the claims, it is believed that she has fostered or adopted around 200 children over the past decade. Prosecutor Mike Wood stated that some of these children, including the girl exchanged for a monkey in Texas, were subjected to physical and emotional abuse.

"TWO WITNESSES' STATEMENTS SUPPORT THE ALLEGATIONS"

Speaking to the KSDK news site in America, Prosecutor Wood indicated that a witness had information regarding the alleged systematic abuse occurring in the woman's home, stating that Deutsch knew the woman who allegedly received the girl in exchange for the monkey. The prosecutor mentioned that at least two witnesses had provided statements supporting the claims that this occurred. Wood said, "No matter how crazy it sounds, we have had a few human trafficking cases in the past. Therefore, we are taking this seriously as well. There are at least two witnesses who say that this is the case."

MORE CHARGES MAY BE FILED

A statement from the prosecutor's office indicated that more charges are expected to be filed during the investigation process. The prosecutor also expressed belief that there was a "systematic failure" in the communication established with the Missouri Department of Social Services' Child Unit regarding the matter, and that authorities would also look into this.
