While Israel's attacks on Syria continue, a meeting on the mechanism of non-conflict with Turkey was held. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with AK Party lawmakers to assess the latest situation on the ground. Fidan warned, "There is a possibility of encounters between Turkish jets and Israeli jets. A mutual non-conflict mechanism should be established, as we have done with the USA and Russia."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, met with AK Party deputies from the Eastern, Southeastern, and Black Sea Regions at the AK Party Headquarters and answered the deputies' questions.
In response to questions about the current state of Turkey-EU relations, Fidan pointed out that Europe does not want to integrate with a country like Turkey. Fidan stated, "States and parties are more positive about Turkey's EU membership, but due to populist policies and concerns about losing votes, things that will please the public are being said. For this reason, rhetoric prevails. If the U.S. withdraws from NATO, there is a possibility of a new conjuncture in relations," he said.
"IT IS NECESSARY TO CONVINCE THE U.S."
According to a report in the Turkey newspaper; evaluating U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to take over Gaza and forcibly displace Palestinians, Fidan said, "We have talked with Arab countries. The biggest problem is that a nuclear power like the U.S. stands behind Israel. Regional countries will strive for the U.S. to change its policy towards Israel. Israel's strategy is bombing, starving, and forcing migration. Here, it is necessary to convince the U.S.," he stated.
"THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF ENCOUNTER BETWEEN TURKISH AND ISRAELI JETS"
Addressing the possibility of encounters between Turkish and Israeli jets while conducting operations in Syria, Fidan said, "Our jets and Israeli jets are both going back and forth there. In the past, we had mechanisms established with the U.S. and Russia regarding mutual non-conflict. Israel needs to be added to this mechanism. It is normal to have technical-level contacts to ensure this," he said.
"WE EXPECT THE PKK TO RESPOND TO THE CALL FOR DISSOLUTION"
Emphasizing that they are closely monitoring the PYD's disarmament and joining the Syrian army, as well as the PKK's potential decision to dissolve, Fidan stated, "The PYD has made an agreement with Syria. We are following the implementation of that agreement. We will closely monitor its realization. We expect the PKK to respond to the call for dissolution," he explained.
"UKRAINE IS CLOSER TO PEACE"
Minister Fidan noted that they expect the resolution of issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of a peace agreement, adding that the operation of transportation and trade corridors will occur at the end of all processes. He also mentioned that Ukraine is closer to peace in the Russia-Ukraine War.
MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE ANNOUNCES NON-CONFLICT AGREEMENT WITH SYRIA
Sources from the Ministry of National Defense provided a statement regarding the ongoing discussions about the non-conflict mechanism between Turkey and Israel. The ministry sources stated that the non-conflict mechanism is not a normalization but a "communication and coordination structure" aimed at preventing direct conflict between the two countries in Syria. Regarding the Marine Spatial Planning activities announced by Greece, the sources stated, "These types of unilateral planning by Greece regarding its maritime jurisdiction areas are contrary to international law. Turkey argues that a fair, equitable, and internationally lawful sharing of maritime jurisdiction in the region can only be possible within the framework of mutual dialogue and good faith," they said.
