The incident occurred on January 21 at around 15:30 in the Saltuklu neighborhood of the Aziziye district. An argument broke out between the Yavuz brothers at their home for an unknown reason. The argument quickly escalated into a fistfight, during which Batuhan Yavuz shot his brother Doğuhan with a gun. Doğuhan Yavuz was seriously injured by three bullets that hit his body. Batuhan Yavuz then fled the scene in a jeep. Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the address. Despite the doctors' intervention at Erzurum City Hospital, Doğuhan Yavuz could not be saved.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
After the incident, the jeep with license plate 07 BMC 033, driven by Batuhan Yavuz, was identified on the North Ring Road through the License Plate Recognition System (PTS). Police teams were directed to the area via radio announcement. Realizing that the police were following him, Yavuz stopped his vehicle after a while. Batuhan Yavuz, who was announced by the teams to get out of the vehicle using a megaphone, attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head with a gun. He was taken to Atatürk University Research Hospital by ambulance. After his treatment, Batuhan Yavuz was discharged from the hospital on February 10 and was arrested by the Peace Criminal Court for the crime of 'Intentional Killing of a Brother' and sent to prison.

The indictment prepared by the public prosecutor's office regarding the incident was accepted by the Erzurum 1st High Criminal Court. In his statement included in the indictment, the detained defendant Batuhan Yavuz stated that there was a debt issue between him and his brother, that there was no argument at the time of the incident, and that he did not remember why he shot his brother. Yavuz stated in his testimony that he shot one bullet into his brother's back while he was turned away, and then, after his brother fell to the ground, he shot one bullet in the back and one in the head from a distance of less than one meter to ensure he would not survive.
PROSECUTOR SOUGHT AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT
Evaluating all the evidence related to the incident, the public prosecutor stated that it was established that the act was committed by Batuhan Yavuz, who also admitted to committing the act in his statement. He approached Doğuhan after the first shot and fired two more shots at close range, demonstrating his intent to intentionally kill his brother. The indictment noted that the suspect's act of staying at home for a while after committing the act indicated that he committed the murder in a cold-blooded manner. It was concluded that the suspect had committed the act of intentional killing using a firearm against his brother. The public prosecutor requested that the defendant be punished with aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'Intentional Killing of a Brother.' Batuhan Yavuz will begin to be tried in the Erzurum 1st High Criminal Court in the coming days.
