TENSION DURING THE INSPECTION
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Cengiz Topel neighborhood. Traffic teams stopped a public bus during the inspection and wanted to impound the vehicle due to a detected violation. At that moment, another public bus driver, M.A.S., arrived at the scene and began recording the female police officers with his mobile phone.
According to allegations, M.A.S. made insulting remarks towards the officers and attempted to prevent the impounding of the vehicle. It was claimed that the suspect shared the footage he recorded on local news sites and social media platforms.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNORATE
In a statement made by the Şanlıurfa Governorate, it was noted that on February 16, 2026, at around 14:55, an administrative sanction was applied to a public bus driver by official traffic teams on Cengiz Topel Street, and the vehicle impounding procedures were initiated.
The statement included, “It has been determined that another public bus driver named M.A.S. began recording with his mobile phone, attempted to obstruct the process by insulting the female officers on duty, and shared the recorded footage through local news sources and social media platforms. The suspect was detained for the crimes of ‘resisting the execution of duty, violating the privacy of private life, and insult’.”
DISPUTE MOMENTS ON CAMERA
Meanwhile, in the footage shared on social media, a dispute between the driver and the female traffic police was observed. In the footage, the driver was heard saying, “The traffic officer chief is threatening me. He says if you share this, I will take you to court. Do whatever you can, the state is behind me. You cannot threaten me. You cannot threaten me in my city.”
