In the Bahçelievler district of Istanbul, during urban transformation works, the balcony of a building that had previously been evacuated and is currently undergoing demolition collapsed during a 3.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Tekirdağ and was felt in Istanbul. One person was injured during the collapse, and teams were dispatched to the area.

Footage of citizens fleeing at the moment the balcony collapsed was captured by cameras second by second.

2 BALCONIES COLLAPSED AT ONCE

Demolition work was being carried out on the 7-story building that had been previously evacuated as part of the urban transformation project. At that moment, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Tekirdağ, which was also felt in Istanbul. At that time, two balconies of the building collapsed.

CONCRETE PIECES FELL ON CITIZENS

During the collapse, pieces that broke off from the balcony fell on citizens passing by on the street. One of the citizens was hit by falling debris from the balconies while trying to escape during the incident. Upon notification, police, medical, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene. The person who was slightly injured was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The municipal teams cordoned off the street with security tape, closing it to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The moments when debris fell from the building and the citizen trying to escape were captured on camera.

"WE DON'T KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE INJURED"

Metin Örnek, a local resident who witnessed the incident, said, "Scrap collectors live here. During the earthquake, two balconies collapsed at once from above. There is one injured person. They were taken to the hospital. We don't know the condition of the injured."
