Due to some cleaning workers at Beşiktaş Municipality going on strike, garbage is not being collected in some neighborhoods. While garbage piles have formed in some areas, local residents and shopkeepers reacted to the situation.
The local people, stating that hygiene has deteriorated in their neighborhoods, called on Beşiktaş Municipality to ensure that the cleaning teams collect the garbage as soon as possible.
"THIS IS PUNISHING PEOPLE"
Yahya Uzun, who lives in Beşiktaş, said, "You can see the state of the neighborhood; I have been living here for 40 years, and there hasn't been a situation like this for many years. The garbage has not been collected since April 29, and the windy weather has blown all the trash around. There are piles of garbage under cars, at the entrances of houses and buildings, and in parking lots everywhere. Unfortunately, the collected garbage has been spilled on the ground as well. It is very bad for a district like Beşiktaş, which includes places like Levent and Gayrettepe, to be in this situation."
"THE MUNICIPALITY MUST GIVE WORKERS THEIR RIGHTS"
Another citizen, Ahmet Yıldırım, stated, "They haven't been collecting the garbage for two weeks; everything is like this. Everything is in this condition. It is impossible for there to be garbage in a place like Gayrettepe; it shouldn't be like this. The municipality is responsible for this; they must give people their rights, the rights of the workers. If they give the workers their rights, this garbage wouldn't stay here. It seems there is a problem; they are not giving the workers their rights."
