Eighteen-year-old Neslinur Topal, who fell ill at home in Muğla, has passed away. Neslinur's two siblings, aged 10 and 12, are currently under treatment. Authorities suspect that the rat poison found in the house reacted with heat, creating a cyanide-like effect.
After eating chicken at their home in the Ortaköy neighborhood of Seydikemer district in Muğla yesterday, Neslinur Topal (18) and her siblings Furkan Topal (10) and Ramazan Topal (12) were taken to Fethiye State Hospital with suspected poisoning.
Of the siblings receiving treatment, Neslinur Topal, whose condition was severe, was transferred to Muğla Education and Research Hospital. Despite all the interventions by doctors, she passed away the same day. It was reported that the health conditions of the other two siblings, who are still receiving treatment in the hospital, remain serious.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
"NO VISIBLE FINDINGS OR CHANGES DETECTED"
The autopsy procedures for Neslinur Topal have been completed. In the initial autopsy assessment, it was stated that no visible findings or changes were detected in the internal organs.
All samples taken from Topal's body have been sent for toxicological and histological examination, and it was noted that the definitive result would emerge after the chemistry expertise report.
Authorities stated that there is currently no definitive determination regarding poisoning.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED AT THE MARKET
The Muğla Health Directorate, AFAD, Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and Gendarmerie teams also conducted work at the house. Additionally, it was reported that an investigation has been initiated by the municipality and provincial agricultural teams at the market where the family purchased the chicken.
RAT POISON ALLEGATION
AFAD Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear teams conducted an examination at the house where the incident occurred. After measuring gas levels in the rooms, the teams took samples. A panel of experts also accompanied the teams during their work.
In the preliminary assessment made by agricultural, health teams, gendarmerie, and AFAD officials, it was learned that rat poison was found in the house, that the house had an underfloor heating system, and that these conditions created a reaction between rat poison and heat, resulting in cyanide-like effects.
It was also learned that an AFAD team coming from Ankara would conduct a technical examination at the house.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
A written statement regarding the incident was made by the Muğla Governor's Office.
In the statement, it was noted that the Muğla Provincial Health Directorate, AFAD, Seydikemer Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and gendarmerie teams are continuing their multifaceted work on the matter, stating, "The Seydikemer Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, and the cause of poisoning will be clarified as a result of the examinations, analyses, and forensic medicine reports."
