In Bahçelievler, Istanbul, one side of a 38-year-old apartment building adjacent to a demolished structure remained without walls as part of urban transformation.

38-YEAR-OLD BUILDING LEFT WITHOUT WALLS

The five-story building in the Şirinevler neighborhood of Bahçelievler, Istanbul, was demolished yesterday as part of urban transformation. After the demolition, it was discovered that no wall had been built on one side of the adjacent 38-year-old building. Some residents of the building attempted to cover the exposed areas of the bathroom, bedroom, and living room with tarpaulin as a precaution.

"THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD PAY THE COST"

Upon receiving a report, the Bahçelievler Municipality's inspection teams examined the building where it was revealed that no wall had been constructed. One of the residents, Yeter Çelik, stated in her remarks that they learned their walls were missing after the two-day demolition and expressed their great astonishment, saying, "By the time I got home from work, my floor had already been demolished. The construction company claimed it was not their fault that no wall was built. The contractor of our apartment is to blame. They should come and pay the costs."

It was learned that the company responsible for the demolition would build a wall on the exposed side of the apartment with materials provided by the residents.
