A historic hearing was held today in the Hope Case, which includes 22 unsolved murders, including the assassination of Uğur Mumcu. Former Interior Minister Mehmet Ağar, who was heard as a witness 32 years later in the case, claimed that he did not say to Güldal Mumcu, "If I pull the brick, the wall will collapse." The hearing was postponed to February 9.

The 13th hearing of the "Hope Case," which includes the assassination of Uğur Mumcu in Ankara and 22 unsolved murders, was held today. The hearing has been postponed to February 9.

MEHMET AĞAR ATTENDED VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE

For the first time, a formal notification was delivered to former Interior Minister Mehmet Ağar within the scope of the case. Ağar attended today's hearing via video conference and answered questions. The Ankara 5th Heavy Penal Court had decided at the beginning of this year to hear Ağar as a witness upon the request of the Mumcu Family. However, it was stated that notifications could not be delivered to Ağar in previous hearings.

One of the notifications, which was resent to Ağar's two registered addresses in the system, was successfully delivered this time. The notification requested Ağar to be present at the hearing on September 22, and if he could not come to Ankara, to connect via video conference from the courthouse in his province.

THE DIALOGUE THAT LED TO AĞAR'S SUMMONS TO COURT

In the petition submitted to the court by the Mumcu Family, a historical dialogue between Mehmet Ağar and the family, who visited them after the assassination of Uğur Mumcu, was conveyed, and it was requested that this be asked to Mehmet Ağar. The court accepted this request, and Ağar was summoned to the hearing.

The conversation witnessed by the family's lawyer Emin Değer is as follows:

Güldal Mumcu: We are constantly faced with obstacles. It feels like a wall is being built.

Mehmet Ağar: Yes, a wall is being built.

Güldal Mumcu: Then pull a brick so the wall can fall.

Mehmet Ağar: I can't pull it.

Güldal Mumcu: Pull the brick aside, step aside.

Mehmet Ağar: I can't do that either.

Güldal Mumcu: Maybe you can ensure a new team is established for the investigation.

Mehmet Ağar: Sorry, I can't do that.

THE DIALOGUE WAS QUESTIONED

According to journalist Alican Uludağ, Mehmet Ağar, when questioned about that dialogue in court, said: "This issue was completely misunderstood. I did not say such a thing. I only wish we could catch the perpetrator of this murder, and then the murders of Bahriye Üçok and Muammer Aksoy would also be solved. I am not afraid of either the wall or pulling bricks. We carried out our duty within legal limits at that time."
