After a dispute during the Collective Bargaining Negotiations between Metro Istanbul and the Railway Workers' Union, a mediator was appointed by the Istanbul Employment and Business Agency.
WORKERS DECIDED TO STRIKE
As the contract was not signed within the designated mediation period, the workers decided to strike. The workers gathered in front of the Metro Istanbul General Directorate in Esenler, read the strike decision, and then hung it on the building's window.
"A STRIKE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE TO ENSURE OUR JUST DEMANDS ARE ACCEPTED"
Hüseyin Akçakoca, Secretary of the Railway Workers' Union Istanbul Branch, stated in front of the Metro Istanbul General Directorate, "The 18th Term Collective Bargaining Negotiations conducted between our union and Metro Istanbul Industry and Trade Inc. have resulted in a dispute. Since the dispute could not be resolved within the period of the official mediator appointed by the Istanbul Employment and Business Agency, a strike decision was made by our union's board of directors on April 24, 2025, in order to ensure our just demands are accepted, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 6356. It is announced in accordance with Article 60 of Law No. 6356. The day and time of the strike will be announced later," he said.
"WE ARE TURNING THIS WHEEL WITH OUR SWEAT AND LABOR"
Resul Aktaş, President of the Railway Workers' Union Istanbul Branch, stated, "The 18th Term Collective Bargaining Negotiations, which we started by obtaining the authorization certificate on November 14, have ended without an agreement due to the expiration of the 60-day legal period and the 20-day mediation process. Since no agreement was reached, the mediator's dispute report has reached our Railway Workers' Union General Center, and our strike process has officially begun in accordance with Law No. 6356. We are turning this wheel with our sweat and labor, which is the only capital we all have. The process is very difficult for all of us. Unstoppable inflation, exorbitant rent increases imposed by ruthless landlords, and the constantly changing prices on supermarket shelves make living in an ancient city like Istanbul very challenging," he said.
