Among those detained in the second wave of operations conducted as part of the 'corruption' investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is Zeynep Gözdem Ongun, the wife of Murat Ongun, the Chairman of the Board of Media A.Ş., who is already in custody in the same investigation. Gözdem Ongun was brought to the courthouse today after her procedures at the police station. Ongun's statement to the police has emerged.
GAVE A 32-PAGE STATEMENT Ongun, who provided a statement of approximately 32 pages at the police station, was asked about the money movements in her account, whether she knew the suspects detained in the corruption operation, and her relationships with these individuals. Zeynep Gözdem Ongun also answered questions about the source of the money seized during the searches at her home and whether she had any assets in her name.
Zeynep Gözdem Ongun DESCRIBED THE MONEY FOUND AT HER HOME Ongun responded to the question about the source of the 83,700 TL, 227 dollars, 31,050 Euros, and 1,640 pounds found in her home by saying, "13,800 TL is my son's holiday allowance. The others are borrowed money that I received from people around me due to my husband being in custody, which I kept for use in case of need. My son has a school payment coming up soon. It is normal for this amount of money to be found at home for this reason. I am someone who has been working and earning a regular income for years. I have been personally disturbed by the fact that the accounts of my company, which I have established and developed with my own efforts, are being scrutinized in such detail. I believe that actions have been taken against me in this investigation due to my husband Murat Ongun," she said.
"MY WIFE GAVE ME 3 MILLION 717 THOUSAND 400 LIRA IN CASH FOR OUR RENT" Responding to allegations of irregularities in IMM's outdoor advertising tenders, Ongun stated that her husband Murat Ongun gave her the 3 million 717 thousand 400 lira she paid annually for the villa they rented. Ongun said, "I have never worked as a manager or in any other capacity at IMM. I have not received any tenders through my company. I have no information regarding the tenders." Gözdem Ongun was also asked about the landlord's statement. Admitting that she paid the rent herself, Ongun said, "That is correct. We rented the duplex apartment where I currently reside for a total of 3 million 717 thousand 400 TL for one year. My husband gave me this rent amount in cash. I then deposited this money into my account and sent it to the landlord from there," she said.
ALSO RESPONDED TO QUESTIONS ABOUT BANK ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS Regarding the money transactions in her bank accounts, Ongun stated, "Individuals or companies may have purchased products from my company. The companies mentioned may belong to my personal clients, but I do not clearly remember at the moment," she expressed.
