In Diyarbakır, 12 defendants, including 6 who are in custody, along with 3 children who are accused of the crime, will appear in court tomorrow in connection with the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran.

In the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, the detained defendants Maşallah, Fuat, and Birsen Güran, along with Salim Güran's worker Mehmet Selim Atasoy, Mehmet Şevket Kaya, and Muhammed Kaya, as well as the non-detained defendants Şeyma Kaya, İbrahim Halil Güran, Hediye Güran, Barış Güran, Kurtuluş Güran, and Ömer Faruk Güran, and the children R.A. (16), M.G. (16), and İ.K. (17), will appear before the judge on Monday, April 14 (tomorrow) at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, facing charges of "aiding a criminal" with a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years sought against them.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024. The investigation involved 12 people, 6 of whom are detained, and 3 children who were led to commit a crime. The indictment prepared by the Prosecutor's Office sought a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years for the 12 individuals for "aiding a criminal," which was accepted by the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance. The indictment prepared for the children R.A. (16), M.G. (16), and İ.K. (17) for the same crime was accepted by the 2nd Juvenile Court. The request of the Diyarbakır 2nd Juvenile Court to merge their case with the case against the 12 defendants, 6 of whom are detained, at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance was accepted.

AN INDICTMENT WAS PREPARED FOR 4 DEFENDANTS SOUGHT FOR INTENTIONAL MURDER WITH LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation against mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar. An indictment was prepared against the 4 defendants for "intentional murder of a child in complicity," seeking aggravated life imprisonment, which was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court on October 23, 2024. The trial of the defendants began on November 7, 2024, and during the hearing on December 28, 2024, the court decided to sentence the detained defendants Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in complicity," while Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz Stream, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime," and their detention status was ordered to continue.
