In a tragic incident that occurred in a wedding hall in the Menemen district of Izmir, Doctor Mehmet Baltacı and his wife Güler Baltacı lost their lives due to the collapse of a decorative arch. New footage shows the couple during these moments and details of the incident.
New footage has emerged regarding the incident in which Dr. Mehmet Baltacı (35) and his wife Güler Baltacı (35) were killed under a decorative arch that collapsed at the entrance of their wedding hall in the Menemen district of İzmir. The footage shows moments when the Baltacı couple passed under the decorative arch, which collapsed due to the wind, captured by cameras from different angles.
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST MAY The incident occurred on May 25, 2025, around 1:00 PM at the wedding hall in Yahşelli Neighborhood. A kindergarten organized a breakfast event for parents. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Baltacı, a general practitioner at İzmir City Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Medicine Clinic, and his wife Güler Baltacı attended the event at their daughter's kindergarten. As the couple headed towards the door to leave the hall after the program, the decorative arch at the garden entrance collapsed on them. Their daughter, who was with them, escaped the incident unharmed. Following reports from bystanders, health, fire, gendarmerie, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. The Baltacı couple, who were rescued from the rubble by the teams, were taken to Menemen State Hospital by ambulances. Mehmet Baltacı, one of the injured, could not be saved. Güler Baltacı, who was transferred to İzmir City Hospital, also lost her life. Dr. Mehmet Baltacı and his wife Güler Baltacı were buried in Gölbaşı district of Ankara.
THE DEFENDANTS HAVE BEGUN TO BE TRIED In the investigation, the operators of the wedding hall, İsmet Ceylan, his mother N.C., and his father G.C. (56), were detained on the day of the incident. After their procedures, the suspects were referred to the courthouse on May 26, where İsmet Ceylan was arrested, while his mother and father were released under judicial control. Following the investigation, an indictment was prepared against operator Ceylan and his father G.C. seeking prison sentences of 2 to 15 years. A decision of non-prosecution was issued for mother N.C. The defendants began to be tried at the 3rd Heavy Criminal Court of Karşıyaka.
