Syrian President Ahmed Sara announced a general amnesty with a decree he published. The amnesty issued on the occasion of the month of Ramadan does not cover only 3 crimes.

The President of Syria, Ahmad President Shara, issued a general amnesty decree as the month of Ramadan begins.

LIFE SENTENCES REDUCED TO 20 YEARS

According to the decree, life sentences will be reduced to 20 years, temporary heavy prison sentences will have half of their duration pardoned, and all penalties for misdemeanors and certain crimes will be abolished.

SMUGGLING, CYBERCRIME, EXCHANGE OFFICES...

With the general amnesty decree, crimes related to smuggling, certain specified crimes, regulations regarding exchange offices, and some crimes under the law prohibiting transactions other than the Syrian pound have been included in the amnesty. In cases of weapons and ammunition offenses, the entire penalty has been pardoned on the condition that the weapons are surrendered to the competent authorities within three months from the publication of the decree. In cases of kidnapping, a condition has been set for the voluntary and unconditional release of the victim and surrender within the specified time frame.

The decree contains special provisions for prisoners who are in serious health condition or above a certain age. It has been reported that those with special conditions due to health or age will be able to benefit from the amnesty following the evaluation of the relevant medical boards.

3 CRIMES EXCLUDED

On the other hand, crimes of torture, human trafficking, serious violations against the Syrian people, and certain serious crimes have been excluded from the scope of the amnesty.
