Sabiha İ. filed for divorce, claiming that she was subjected to violence by her husband Ü.İ., who blames her for not being able to have a baby. Sabiha İ. stated that she could not receive the necessary medications for in vitro fertilization due to the pain she experienced after a needle was left in her abdomen during surgery, and she argued that this is why she has been unable to have a child. She said, "What did I do to deserve this?"

In April 2021, Sabiha İ. married Ü.İ., whom she met in the Kumluca district of Antalya. Due to the problems she experienced, she filed for divorce in July 2022 and got divorced. One month later, Sabiha İ. decided to remarry her ex-husband. Wanting to have a baby in her second marriage, Sabiha İ. applied for in vitro fertilization treatment at a private hospital in Kumluca due to health issues. During the examinations, it was found that Sabiha İ. had a fibroid (a benign tumor that develops within the uterus) in her ovaries, and she was referred to Antalya Training and Research Hospital for surgery on January 16, 2023.

After the operation, Sabiha İ. began to experience severe pain. Due to the pain, Sabiha İ. could not use the necessary medications for in vitro fertilization treatment. According to allegations, Ü.İ. physically and psychologically abused his wife on May 26, 2024, blaming her for not being able to have a baby. The day after the incident, Sabiha İ. went to Kumluca State Hospital for a forensic examination, where she learned through an X-ray that a surgical needle had been left in her abdomen. The needle was removed in a surgery performed at Antalya Training and Research Hospital, to which the doctors referred her.

"I WAS FORCED TO MARRY"

Sabiha İ. stated that her husband blamed her during this process and that she continued to experience physical and psychological abuse, and was threatened with death for not being able to have a baby. Sabiha İ. said, "I was forced to marry; our first marriage lasted 1 year. Then I filed for divorce, but he started to threaten me. I remarried because I was left with no choice. After getting married, he started wanting children. I had health problems, and the doctors recommended in vitro fertilization. I needed to have fibroid surgery for in vitro fertilization, and I experienced complications after the surgery. Later, my relationship with my husband deteriorated. Initially, the doctors said there was nothing wrong, but a needle had been left in my abdomen. My husband believed the doctors and did not believe me," she said.

"THEY GAVE A RESTRAINING ORDER"

Sabiha İ. said, "My husband made statements like, 'You are lying not to give birth.' He even abused the dog we raised together. He threatened me with harm. He abused my mother. After that, everything got worse for me. On May 26, 2024, my husband came home and physically abused me. After this incident, they issued a restraining order against him. They also put a tracking device on me. I pay the price for a health worker's mistake by experiencing violence every day. What did I do to deserve this?" she said.

"SHE IS BEING TRIED AS A DEFENDANT DESPITE BEING A VICTIM OF VIOLENCE"

Sabiha İ.'s lawyer, Şehmus Dalkılıç, stated, "We met Sabiha Hanım in July 2024 through her divorce case. After seeing the divorce file, we realized the incidents of violence she had suffered. Some of these incidents had not been brought to justice. We assisted her in this matter. Sabiha Hanım has a divorce case against her husband Ü.İ. There are also three ongoing criminal proceedings. The root of this violence is actually Sabiha Hanım being forced into an amicable divorce. Despite having witnesses for this, an indictment is being prepared against us as well. After Ü.İ. inflicted violence on my client Sabiha İ., a 2-centimeter scratch appeared on Ü.İ.'s neck. This scratch could be considered self-defense; Ü.İ. could have inflicted this scratch himself. We have witnesses. We know that Ü.İ. entered Sabiha İ.'s house and broke her furniture with his hands. Ü.İ. also added the scratches on his hands to his complaint. Despite being a victim of violence, my client is currently being tried as a defendant. We know this will result in a lack of prosecution. Threats against Sabiha Hanım are still ongoing," he said.

Ü.İ. did not respond to the allegations, stating that he did not want the news to be published.
