A cold wave coming from Russia and Iceland will continue to affect the entire country in the new week. The meteorology department has issued a yellow code warning for heavy snowfall in 16 provinces, and it is expected that the snowfall will spread to 56 provinces on Wednesday.
According to the evaluations of the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), the drop in temperatures will continue in the new week. It has been reported that the system entering the country from Russia and Iceland will manifest itself with frost, icing, and snowfall in many regions, except for the Aegean, the western Mediterranean, and Thrace.
YELLOW CODE SNOW ALERT FOR 16 PROVINCES
MGM issued a yellow code warning for Bitlis, Bolu, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Kastamonu, Mardin, Siirt, Sinop, Şanlıurfa, Van, Zonguldak, Batman, Şırnak, Bartın, Karabük, and Düzce. It was particularly noted that the snow depth around Zonguldak, Düzce, Bartın, Bolu, Karabük, and Kastamonu could exceed 20 centimeters.
WIND WILL REACH UP TO 70 KILOMETERS
MGM warned that in the Marmara, Southern Aegean, Mediterranean, southern Central Anatolia, Black Sea coasts, southeastern Eastern Anatolia, and eastern Southeastern Anatolia, the wind could reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour in some areas.
SNOW MAY REACH 25 CENTIMETERS IN SOME PROVINCES
According to forecasts, it was recorded that the snow depth around Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Batman, Bitlis, Siirt, and Van could reach 15 centimeters, while in the regions of Mardin, Şırnak, and Hakkari, it could reach up to 25 centimeters. It was also reported that the risk of icing and frost would continue in the region.
SNOW IS EXPECTED IN 56 PROVINCES ON WEDNESDAY
According to MGM's models, it is anticipated that the snowfall, which is expected to increase its effect today, will continue in the new week. A snowfall expectation was shared for 56 provinces on Wednesday, the last day of the year.
BEWARE OF FREEZING TEMPERATURES
While temperatures in the inner regions are expected to drop below zero, it is stated that the cold wave will be felt more severely in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia. It was expressed that on Wednesday, temperatures could drop to -9 degrees in Tunceli, -13 in Hakkari, -14 in Erzurum, -15 in Ağrı, and -19 degrees in Ardahan.
