The Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, Abdulfattah al-Burhan, stated in his assessment of the ongoing conflicts in the country since April 2023 that lasting peace cannot be achieved without neutralizing the Rapid Support Forces. Speaking to the Turkish press, Burhan expressed that they proposed Turkey's mediation, but this initiative was not accepted by some circles. Burhan said, "We trust in God first, and then in President Erdoğan."
Sudan Sovereignty Council President Abdulfattah al-Burhan stated that lasting peace in the country is not possible without completely neutralizing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), while making remarks regarding the ongoing conflicts since April 2023. Burhan mentioned that they suggested Turkey take on a mediating role, but this proposal was not accepted by some circles.
STATEMENT TO TURKISH JOURNALISTS
Burhan met with representatives of Turkish media organizations at his residence in Port Sudan. Emphasizing that the conflicts have imposed a heavy toll on the country, the Sudanese leader expressed that thousands of people have lost their lives, been injured, and experienced large-scale material destruction due to RSF attacks.
"THERE IS NOT A SINGLE SUDANESE UNTOUCHED BY THIS WAR"
Burhan expressed that the Sudanese people are united against the RSF, stating, "There is not a single Sudanese who has not been harmed by this war." He also added that the public's support for the army continues.
"PEACE WILL NOT COME UNTIL THE RSF IS ELIMINATED"
In his assessments regarding the future of Sudan, Burhan argued that any proposed solution while the RSF continues to exist will only postpone the crisis.
Stating, "The permanent solution is the elimination of the RSF. This does not mean everyone must die; laying down arms and surrendering is also an option," Burhan emphasized that military superiority lies with the Sudanese army.
CRITICISM OF CEASEFIRE CALLS
Burhan claimed that the ceasefire calls made by some countries serve the interests of the RSF. Reminding that no ceasefire call was made during the siege of Fasher, Burhan said, "Ceasefire proposals increased when Fasher was considered. Because the RSF is wanted to gain more territory," he stated.
"THE UAE CANNOT BE PART OF THE SOLUTION"
Claiming that the United Arab Emirates supports the RSF, Burhan stated that they do not want the UAE to be involved in any solution process.
Burhan said, "We wanted Turkey or Qatar to mediate, but this was not accepted by the RSF," and noted that regional countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt could be included in the process.
MESSAGE OF TRUST TO PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN
Expressing his trust in Turkey openly, Burhan said, "We trust first in God, then in President Erdoğan."
Stating that Turkey's support for Sudan is significant, Burhan expressed their hope for the development of political and economic relations as much as military ones.
"THE ARMY HAS BEEN RESTRUCTURED"
Burhan stated that the war has caused great suffering and noted that the Sudanese army has been restructured and has become stronger on the ground. He argued that arms shipments to the RSF continue despite United Nations resolutions, particularly drawing attention to the situation in Darfur.
THANK YOU TO TURKEY
At the end of his statement, Burhan thanked the Turkish people and government, saying, "We have seen how the Turkish people supported Sudan. I thank you on behalf of my country."
