In the popular competition MasterChef Turkey on TV8, this time the focus of the debate was on the chefs. Contestant Bilal's statement, "I was the kitchen chef," led to tension between Mehmet Yalçınkaya and Somer Sivrioğlu. The discussion of "Chef or kitchen supervisor?" made a significant impact on viewers.
The popular competition MasterChef Turkey, which is closely followed on TV8, continues to captivate culinary enthusiasts in front of the screen in the 2025-2026 season. Once again, Mehmet Yalçınkaya, Somer Sivrioğlu, and Danilo Zanna occupy the jury seats, and this season, high doses of both flavor and tension are experienced. However, this time the focus of the debate was not the contestants, but the chefs.
"I WAS A KITCHEN CHEF AT MY LAST JOB" STATEMENT RAISED TENSION
Contestant Bilal's response to the chefs' question, "What were you doing in your last position?" with "I was a kitchen chef" ignited a heated discussion in the studio. Mehmet Yalçınkaya, who found the statement insufficient, expressed that a longer history is needed to reach this position, stating, "Making good food is one thing, being a good chef is another. Depth in the kitchen is gained through experience. You can't become a chef in four years; if you can, what does that make our title?" In moments of rising tension, Somer Sivrioğlu, wanting to ease the atmosphere, humorously responded to Chef Mehmet to prevent the argument from escalating, saying, "You're right, my dear Mehmet, you're always right," but after the famous chef Mehmet Yalçınkaya's response, "No, I'm not right; we're debating, there's nothing wrong with that," he clearly expressed his thoughts.
SOMER CHEF'S COUNTERVIEW: "ABILITY IS A DIFFERENT THING"
In response to Chef Mehmet's outburst, Somer Sivrioğlu emphasized the importance of talent. He argued that not only years but also a person's skills and leadership potential are significant, stating, "I know people who have been chefs for 30 years but whom I wouldn't entrust my kitchen to. However, I've also seen chefs who have made great progress in four or five years, who are eager and skilled. Everyone's career path is different." Somer Chef asserted that a person managing a small team could also be considered a chef, but he argued that titles should be re-evaluated according to job descriptions.
THE DEBATE OF "CHEF OR KITCHEN RESPONSIBLE?" HEATED UP
The discussion did not end here. The chefs experienced a difference of opinion this time over the question of who is entitled to the title of "Chef." Somer Chef stated that it is not appropriate to refer to a person working in a small café with five people as a "chef," and that it would be more accurate to use the term "kitchen responsible" instead.
