The 11th Judicial Package has been submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. AK Party Group Chairman in the Parliament, Abdullah Güler, stated, "We foresee imprisonment of 1 to 3 years for those who block roads in traffic."
The law proposal known to the public as the 11th Judicial Package has been submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, who explained the details of the package, stated that there will be a prison sentence of up to 3 years for blocking roads in traffic.
3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR BLOCKING ROADS IN TRAFFIC
The relevant part of Güler's statements is as follows:
"We have started to see incidents of blocking roads in traffic more frequently. We are regulating the act of blocking roads in traffic as an independent crime. We foresee sanctions for these acts. We propose that a person who unlawfully stops a vehicle or prevents it from moving be sentenced to imprisonment from one year to three years.
We are ensuring that deterrent penalties are imposed for the acts of urban bandits that threaten the safety of individuals and property in terms of aggression in traffic, and we are striving to ensure the utmost safety of our citizens.
We are witnessing an increase in behaviors that violate the obligation of attention and care following the increase in dangerous activity areas, the crowding of work environments, and the significant rise in the number of vehicles on the road.
By increasing the penalties for the crime of causing injury by negligence, we are including a more deterrent and effective sanction in this proposal.
We propose that if the subject of the crime of abuse of trust involves a motorized, land, sea, or air vehicle, the penalty to be imposed should be increased by one fold. Especially in recent years, we have seen an increase in actions such as not returning rented vehicles, selling them as parts after dismantling, changing their parts, or using them for criminal purposes. We are also including more deterrent sanctions in this proposal regarding these issues.
7 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR SHOOTING IN THE AIR
Penalties for individuals who endanger public safety by shooting in the air in crowded areas are also being increased. It is proposed that those who commit this crime face imprisonment of up to 7 years and 6 months."
