The conflict initiated by Druze armed groups south of the capital Damascus in Syria has reached a dangerous level. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar called on the international community to intervene in Syria under the pretext of protecting the Druze minority. Following Israel's scandalous call, a large convoy belonging to the Syrian army set out towards Suwayda to stop the clashes.
The clashes initiated by armed Druze groups south of the capital Damascus in Syria have intensified. Although the Syrian army has regained control in some areas, it has taken action due to the ongoing tension.
SYRIAN ARMY HEADED TOWARDS SUEIDA
A convoy belonging to the Syrian army has set off towards Suweida. It was observed that heavily armed soldiers were present in the convoy. The seemingly endless convoy was captured on a mobile phone camera.
PROVOCATIVE CALL FROM ISRAEL: INTERVENE IN SYRIA
On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar called on the international community to intervene in Syria under the pretext of protecting the Druze minority. Speaking at a reception attended by foreign mission representatives, Saar claimed that as Jews, they know well what it means to be a minority.
Saar claimed that the Middle East is a difficult region for minorities, stating, "I call on the international community to fulfill its role in protecting minorities in Syria, especially the Druze." He argued that the international community should not ignore what is happening in Syria, while Israel's Foreign Minister Saar has been conducting attacks on Syria under the pretext of protecting the Druze and inciting the Druze community against the Damascus government.
PROVOCATION AND CLASHES THAT SPARKED THE EVENTS
A voice recording shared on social media on April 28, targeting Prophet Muhammad, drew significant backlash in Syria. The owner of the rapidly spreading voice recording identified himself as being from Suweida province, where the Druze community predominantly resides, and made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
In response, protests were held in many provinces on April 29, and the tensions that began in the Ceramane neighborhood in the evening escalated into clashes after some armed Druze groups ambushed security forces loyal to the Syrian government. The conflict widened as Druze groups from the Sahnaya neighborhood also intervened in the attack initiated by armed Druze groups in Ceremane, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 security personnel.
“ISRAEL MUST NOT REMAIN PASSIVE IN THE FACE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SYRIA”
Syrian security forces deployed a large number of soldiers, heavy weapons, and tanks to the region to establish control. Sheikh Muwafak Tarif, one of the leaders of the Druze living in the Golan Heights under Israeli occupation, stated regarding the clashes in the Sahnaya neighborhood of Damascus, "Israel must not remain passive in the face of what is currently happening in Syria."
In the morning hours, Israel facilitated the passage of some Druze groups into Syrian territory, and in the evening, it conducted at least 9 airstrikes in Sahnaya with 5 fighter jets under the pretext of protecting the Druze. Two people were killed in the Israeli attack.
