After the provocation by Mesud Barzani in Cizre, another scandal came from Nechirvan Barzani. The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, stated that the new administration in Syria should have a decentralized structure, saying, "The SDF has paid an extraordinary price. It cannot be expected for them to lay down their arms without a guarantee of integration."
While the echoes of the striking images of Mesud Barzani with his bodyguards in Cizre continue, this time a noteworthy statement came from Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY). Barzani argued that the new administration to be established in Syria should have a decentralized structure.
NEW STATEMENT AFTER THE STRIKING CIZRE IMAGES
As the fight against terrorism in Turkey continues resolutely, the images of Mesud Barzani that made headlines in Şırnak-Cizre sparked a strong reaction from Ankara. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli openly criticized the images, and the Ministry of Interior launched an investigation regarding the matter. While the heat of this development continues, a new and controversial statement has come from the Northern Iraq administration.
BARZANI: LOCAL GOVERNMENT MUST BE STRENGTHENED IN THE NEW SYRIA
In an interview with The Spectator Australia magazine, Nechirvan Barzani made evaluations regarding the political landscape in Syria. Commenting on the new administration formula in Damascus, Barzani stated, "Ahmed Shara is the last chance for Syria."
Pointing out Syria's multinational and multicultural structure, Barzani said, "The decentralization of power is vital for Syria. Christians, Druze, Yazidis, Alawites, Kurds, secular Sunni Arabs, and all other groups must be fully represented in the new Syria."
"SDG WILL NOT LAY DOWN ARMS WITHOUT GUARANTEE"
Speaking about the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian extension of the PKK/YPG, into the Syrian army, Barzani stated,
"These forces have paid extraordinary prices. You cannot expect them to lay down their arms or return to society without a guarantee of integration."
Barzani asserted that a decentralized structure would create a "vital balance element" against Shara's power balance.
WHAT DOES DECENTRALIZATION MEAN?
Decentralization means reducing the powers of the central government and strengthening local governments. This structure results in the weakening of central authority and allows local governments to be more effective in decision-making processes.
