The General Directorate of Meteorology has published a critical weather report for the upcoming week. Starting from tonight, Turkey will be under the influence of a strong and rainy weather system referred to as the "cyclone wave," which is coming from Greece. Heavy rainfall will be effective in Istanbul and Bursa starting from 03:00 tonight.

According to the latest forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the cyclone wave will show its first effects tonight on the western and southern coasts of the Marmara Region. Weather conditions will rapidly deteriorate, and as of 03:00, cities in Marmara, especially Istanbul, will be subjected to heavy downpours.
RAIN ALERT: ISTANBUL AND COASTAL CITIES ARE KEY POINTS
The system will increase its impact starting from Tuesday morning and will spread southward. Continuous and heavy rainfall is also expected in the Aegean and Mediterranean coastal and inland areas. Due to the high humidity and intense rainfall potential brought by the cyclone, there is a high risk of flooding and inundation, especially in the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Disruptions in maritime transportation and rises in sea level may occur along the coastal strips due to the storm.
UNINTERRUPTED RAINS WILL LAST ALL WEEK
This strong rainy air mass coming from Greece will not be limited to the western regions. According to MGM, the cyclone wave will be effective in a large part of the country throughout the week and will bring intermittent heavy rainfall. The effect of the rainy weather system will continue until it shifts to the eastern regions towards the weekend.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN ISTANBUL, IZMIR, AND ANKARA?
With the influence of the cyclone wave coming from Greece, weather conditions in Istanbul and Izmir will rapidly deteriorate starting tonight (the night between Monday and Tuesday) and will be challenging throughout the week. Istanbul will be one of the first and most severely affected areas by the cyclone; due to the expected heavy and continuous downpours, the risk of flooding is quite high on Tuesday and Wednesday. Similarly, Izmir and all Aegean coasts will also be at the center of the system; due to warnings of heavy downpours, strong winds, and storms, maximum caution is required against floods and inundations.
Ankara, located in the inner regions, will enter the system a bit later and lighter compared to the western provinces; although rainfall will still be effective in the city, the risk of flooding is not expected to be as high as in Istanbul and Izmir. However, residents of the capital should also be prepared for cool and rainy weather throughout the week. It is vital for citizens to heed the warnings issued by the Meteorology to prevent loss of life and property. The basic precautions to be taken against the risk of floods and inundation are as follows: Moving items in riverbeds and basements to safe places. Parking vehicles in safe and elevated areas against sudden flood risks. Being cautious against adverse events such as roof blow-offs, tree or pole falls due to strong winds and storms. Avoiding going outside during rainfall unless necessary and being slow and careful in traffic.
