A.T., who ran over and injured a cat with his truck in Adana, was detained and after being released, was sentenced to 1 month of community service at an animal shelter.
A.T. (46), who fled after running over a cat with his truck on the street in Adana and seriously injuring it, was detained by police teams. In his statement, A.T. said, "I am an animal lover too, I didn't notice the cats, I didn't drive over them intentionally," and he was released under judicial control and given a sentence of working at an animal shelter for 1 month.
The incident occurred on January 21 in the Döşeme neighborhood of Seyhan district. The truck driven by A.T. ran over one of the two cats on the street and fled. Those moments were captured by the security camera of a nearby business. Merve Taşgıt (28), who noticed the injured cat 4 days later, took it to an animal hospital without wasting time. During the checks conducted on the cat, it was reported that it had a broken leg, its tail had lost its function, and its overall health condition was critical.
'I AM AN ANIMAL LOVER TOO'
Following a report, the Seyhan District Police Department's Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau teams initiated an investigation and identified the suspect. During a raid at the suspect's address, A.T. was detained. In his statement at the police station, A.T. said, "I am an animal lover too, I didn't notice the cats, I didn't drive over them intentionally." After his procedures, A.T. was referred to the courthouse, where he was released under judicial control and given a sentence of working at an animal shelter for 1 month.
'THE CAT CAME TO ME IN PAIN'
Taşgıt, who took the cat to the veterinarian after noticing its broken leg, stated, "I used to feed the cat before. I hadn't seen the cat for 3-4 days before the day of the incident. One day, while I was coming to work, the cat came to me crying and screaming in pain. When I noticed its leg was broken, I immediately took it to the animal hospital. The cat's condition is serious, its treatment is ongoing, and surgeries are continuing," she said.
'HE RAN OVER THE CAT INTENTIONALLY'
Merve Taşgıt, who claims that the suspect ran over the cat intentionally, expressed her deep sadness after watching the security camera footage, saying, "When I asked the local shopkeepers, they said a truck hit the cat. When I investigated the situation, I saw that the truck driver intentionally ran over the cats. After seeing the footage, I was devastated. I did everything I could to find this man out of anger. The suspect maneuvers while driving straight on the road, running over the cats. It was definitely a deliberate and cruel act. Cats are the silent servants of God. I would be very upset if the cat dies. The person who does this to cats today can do it to children and women tomorrow. I want this person to receive the necessary punishment," she said.
