A fire, believed to be caused by an electrical fault, broke out around 14:00 at a restaurant in the historic Wheat Square in the Karaağaç neighborhood of Erzincan, where local products are sold. The flames quickly spread to adjacent businesses due to the wind's effect.
FIRE BRIGADE AND AIRPORT TEAMS WERE SENT AS REINFORCEMENTS
Upon receiving reports from nearby residents, fire crews from Erzincan Municipality were dispatched to the area. Due to the majority of the businesses being wooden and adjacent to each other, the growing fire prompted the dispatch of the police department's intervention vehicle, TOMA, and airport fire teams as reinforcements. Thanks to the intense efforts of the teams, the fire was brought under control.
20 BUSINESSES WERE DAMAGED
Governor Hamza Aydoğdu monitored the firefighting efforts on-site alongside Police Chief Zafer Baybaba and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Veysel Yanık, noting that approximately 20 businesses were damaged. Aydoğdu also assisted the shopkeepers in evacuating flammable materials from the area. He stated, "The fire is believed to have started from the restaurant. This is a square where local products are sold. The teams quickly intervened and brought the fire under control. Thankfully, there were no casualties."
