During his remarks at the United Nations General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump’s teleprompter malfunctioned. Trump continued by saying, "The teleprompter is not working right now, and that’s not a big problem for me. I’ll just say this: the person managing that teleprompter is really in big trouble."

The 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, which brings together the leaders and high-level representatives of UN member countries for a week in New York, has begun.

"YES MY FRIEND, YOU'RE IN TROUBLE"

As U.S. President Donald Trump took the stage to deliver his speech, his teleprompter malfunctioned. Trump, who said, "I'm giving this speech without a prompter," added, "The prompter is not working right now, and that's not a big problem for me. I'm very happy to be here with you. Let me just say this, the person who operates this prompter is really in big trouble. Yes, my friend, you're in trouble."

ERDOĞAN TO SPEAK IN 4TH PLACE

Turkey is represented by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the 80th UN General Assembly. Erdoğan, who will speak in 4th place today, is expected to draw attention to the situation in Gaza during his address. It is anticipated that President Erdoğan will call on member countries to stand against Israel's attacks.

GUTERRES DELIVERED THE OPENING SPEECH

On the other hand, UN Secretary-General Guterres delivered the opening speech of the session. Guterres stated that the UN was established 80 years ago with the motto "peace instead of conflict" as a practical strategy for the survival of humanity, and he said that although there is much work to be done ahead, their ability to carry out this work has been taken away from them.

Guterres remarked, "We have entered an era where ruthless human suffering is taking place. Look around you, the principles of the UN you established are under siege. Listen, the foundations of peace and progress are collapsing under the weight of impunity, inequality, and indifference."

Pointing out that the territories of sovereign nations are being occupied, that hunger is being used as a weapon, and that truths are being silenced, Guterres asked, "What kind of world will we choose? A world where brute force prevails, or a world governed by laws? A world where power is justified, or a world where everyone's rights are recognized?"

CALL FOR A TWO-STATE SOLUTION

Guterres stated that nothing can justify Hamas's attacks on October 7 and the subsequent collective punishment of the Palestinian people, as well as the systematic destruction of Gaza, and called for an immediate permanent ceasefire and a commitment to a two-state solution for sustainable peace in the Middle East.

In this context, Guterres reminded that the UN Security Council must also fulfill its responsibilities, stating, "(The UN Security Council) must be more representative, more transparent, and more effective. Beyond crisis intervention, we must also combat exclusion, inequality, corruption, and the injustices that trigger conflict. The most certain way to silence weapons is to raise the voice of justice."

Guterres emphasized that human rights are not a decoration of peace but its foundation, noting that human rights are universal, indivisible, and interdependent, and that political will is needed for their implementation.
