The tradition at the White House continued: President Donald Trump pardoned two turkeys named "Gobble" and "Waddle" on Thanksgiving. Thanks to this, the turkeys managed to stay away from the dinner tables, while Trump emphasized during the ceremony that the American economy is in better shape than it was last year.
US President Donald Trump pardoned two turkeys named "Gobble" and "Waddle" at the traditional "Thanksgiving" event held at the White House.
Speaking at the ceremony held in the White House garden, President Trump stated that the American people are in a better economic situation compared to last year as Thanksgiving approaches.
"WE INHERITED A BAD ECONOMY"
Trump claimed that they inherited a poor economic picture from the Joe Biden administration, explaining that his administration secured a promise of $18 trillion in investments for the country in just one year.
Expressing that the presence of the National Guard in Washington D.C. has made the city much safer than before, Trump mentioned the crime rates in Chicago, stating that they also want to make that city safe.
Trump also argued that former President Joe Biden pardoned the two turkeys last year not with real presidential authority, but through an "automatic signature method" (Autopen), claiming that this was not a genuine pardon.
TURKEYS ESCAPED INVESTIGATION
In a humorous tone, Trump asserted that the turkey pardon event from last year was invalid "as a result of their investigation," stating that he truly pardoned those turkeys himself.
After his speech, the US President indicated that he pardoned the two turkeys named "Gobble" and "Waddle," which were raised in North Carolina, based on presidential authority.
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the last Thursday of November every year in the US. The tradition of pardoning a turkey at the White House has been ongoing since 1963, during John F. Kennedy's presidency.
TURKEY JOKE
Recently, President Trump said, "Turkey is down. I’m saying 33 percent. Think about it... I’m not talking about the country Turkey. Turkey is doing well. Erdoğan is doing just fine. I don’t want him to call me and say I didn’t drop 33 percent. He is our friend. We must stand by our friends." referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
