14-year-old Nur Banu Ötünç, who was staying at her aunt's house in the Derik district of Mardin, was found dead at home with a gunshot wound. The incident, which came to light after a shepherd heard the screams for help from her younger cousins, is being investigated for the possibility of suicide or accidental discharge.

FOUND DEAD IN HER AUNT'S HOUSE
The incident occurred in the evening hours in the Çavuşlu village of the rural Şahverdi neighborhood in the Derik district. Nur Banu Ötünç, whose parents were working in Antalya, started staying at her aunt's house. Her aunt went to a condolence visit, and her uncle was outside the district, leaving Ötünç at home with her two cousins, aged 3-4. In the evening, a shepherd passing in front of the house noticed two children crying and asking for help at the window. The children, who said they couldn't go outside because there was a dog in the yard, were taken out of the house by the shepherd. Later, the shepherd and villagers who entered the house saw Nur Banu Ötünç shot with a gun. Upon notification, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene. Upon examination, it was determined that Ötünç had lost her life.
ACCIDENT OR SUICIDE?
Nur Banu's body was first taken to Derik State Hospital and then to the morgue of Mardin Training and Research Hospital for autopsy. It will be determined after the autopsy and investigation whether Nur Banu committed suicide or was killed as a result of the gun accidentally firing. The gendarmerie's investigation into the incident is ongoing.
