In South Africa's Western Cape province, a passenger bus overturned while traveling from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape, resulting in 16 deaths, including 3 children, and 35 injuries. The accident was reported to have occurred when the bus maneuvered to avoid colliding with another vehicle.
CAPE In the Western Cape province of South Africa, 16 people, including 3 children, lost their lives when a passenger bus overturned. Maxine Bezuidenhout, Chief Director of Traffic Management at the Western Cape Department of Transport, stated in her statement that the bus, which was traveling from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape province with 73 passengers on board, overturned near the Touws River area.
Bezuidenhout announced that 16 people, including 3 children, died in the accident, and at least 35 people, including the bus driver, were taken to the hospital.
INJURED TAKEN TO HOSPITALS
Bezuidenhout noted that the passengers on the bus were holidaymakers traveling from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape and reported that the injured were receiving treatment.
Bezuidenhout stated that, according to the driver's statement, as the bus approached Touws River on the N1 highway, it maneuvered to avoid colliding with a vehicle exiting from a side road, which caused the bus to overturn.
