In an armed attack on homes and markets in the Abiemnom County of South Sudan's Ruweng Administrative Area, 169 people were killed and 50 were injured. Following the incident, officials declared a state of mourning and reported that the attackers have been brought under control in the area.
In an armed attack in the Abiemnom district of the Ruweng Administrative Area in South Sudan, 169 people were killed and 50 were injured. The region's Information Minister James Monyluak Mijok told AA correspondent that dozens of armed youths from Unity State set fire to market squares and houses in the Abiemnom district of the Ruweng Administrative Area yesterday.
3-DAY MOURNING DECLARED
Mijok stated that 169 people, including 2 senior officials, lost their lives in the attacks and 50 were injured. He reported that the army has driven the attackers out of the area, and the authorities in the Abiemnom district have now taken full control of the region. Condemning the attack, Mijok called on Unity State to "bring the perpetrators to justice."
The Ruweng Administrative Area Government declared a 3-day "mourning" following the attack.
