As many as 23 suspects allegedly linked to the PKK/KCK terror group have been arrested in southeastern Turkey's Diyarbakir province, security sources said Tuesday.

Prosecutors in Diyarbakir launched an investigation against the terror group, and issued arrest warrants for 33 suspects including Democratic Regions Party's (DBP) former Nusaybin mayor, Ayse Gokhan, and council members of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

While the arrested were referred to security headquarters for further investigation, many organizational documents were confiscated.

A police hunt for 10 other suspects is under way.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
