The Deputy Minister of Trade, Mahmut Gürcan, stated that a fine of 231 million lira has been imposed on five major chain supermarkets for unfair price increases. Gürcan also mentioned that they have inspected over 160,000 companies and more than 1.2 million products across 81 provinces to date, and as a result of these inspections, they have imposed administrative fines exceeding 529 million Turkish Lira since the beginning of the year.

A TOTAL OF 231 MILLION LIRA FINE FOR 5 CHAIN MARKETS

Attending the opening of a factory in Kayseri, Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan provided information about the inspections carried out by the ministry. Gürcan noted that they imposed a total of 231 million TL in fines on 5 major chain markets. Gürcan stated: "The Ministry of Trade is a very broad ministry in terms of its responsibilities. While it includes comprehensive responsibilities such as the regulation and supervision of trade, on the other hand, we strive to respond to the needs of every segment of society. We continue our efforts to ensure a fair and competitive domestic market environment. In the inspections we conducted, we imposed a total of 231 million TL in fines on 5 major market chains in recent days.

529 MILLION LIRA IN FINES IMPOSED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

Additionally, we are monitoring the price increases of essential goods and services that are necessary to meet the public's basic needs, especially in the food sector, such as nutrition, healthy living, and protection. Through our provincial directorates, we have inspected over 160,000 firms and more than 1.2 million products across 81 provinces to date. As a result of these inspections, we have imposed administrative fines exceeding 529 million Turkish Liras since the beginning of the year. Thus, we are collectively continuing our struggle to prevent those who attempt to disrupt price balance and engage in unfair price increases."
