CHP council member İlker Uluer, former Deputy Mayor Cevdet Çalı, and Personnel Services Manager Bülent Karakaş, who were detained in the bribery and money laundering investigation against the Beşiktaş Municipality, have been arrested. $90,000 and €5,000 were seized during the searches.
Former Deputy Mayor of Beşiktaş Municipality Cevdet Çalı, Beşiktaş Municipality Personnel Services Manager Bülent Karakaş, Sarbel Organization Office Worker Özlem Demir Karakaş, former Beşiktaş Municipality CHP Council Member Oylum Işık, and Beşiktaş Municipality CHP Council Member İlker Uluer, who were detained within the scope of an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Beşiktaş Municipality for bribery and laundering of assets derived from crime, were referred to the courthouse following their procedures at the police station.
3 PEOPLE INCLUDING THE DEPUTY MAYOR ARRESTED
After the prosecutor's statements, İlker Uluer, Cevdet Çalı, and Bülent Karakaş were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for arrest. The judgeship decided to arrest the 3 suspects. Procedures for the other 2 suspects at the prosecutor's office are ongoing.
90 THOUSAND DOLLARS AND 5 THOUSAND EUROS SEIZED
Meanwhile, it was learned that during searches conducted at the suspects' residences and offices, numerous digital materials and 90 thousand dollars and 5 thousand euros, believed to be proceeds of crime, were seized.
STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that an investigation into the Beşiktaş Municipality was carried out under the coordination of the chief prosecutor's office by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch Directorate.
The statement indicated that within the scope of the investigation, 5 suspects, including the former Deputy Mayor of Beşiktaş Municipality and a Beşiktaş Municipality Council Member, were detained for the crimes of "bribery" and "laundering of assets."
It was stated that during searches conducted at the suspects' residences and offices, numerous digital materials in their possession and 90 thousand dollars and 5 thousand euros, believed to be proceeds of crime, were seized.
The statement listed the names of the suspects as follows:
"Former Beşiktaş Municipality Deputy Mayor Cevdet Çalı, Beşiktaş Municipality Personnel Services Manager Bülent Karakaş, Sarbel Organization Office Worker Özlem Demir Karakaş, Former Beşiktaş Municipality CHP Council Member Oylum Işık, Beşiktaş Municipality CHP Council Member İlker Uluer."
The suspects referred to the courthouse within the scope of the investigation, Nazire Oylum Işık and Özlem Demir Karakaş, were arrested.
