In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 37 out of 51 defendants who were accused of attempting a coup against President Felix Tshisekedi have been sentenced to death. Among those sentenced to death are citizens of the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
The decision has been made to sentence 37 individuals, including citizens of the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Canada, to death on charges of attempted coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
37 INDIVIDUALS TO BE EXECUTED
According to BBC, the trial of 51 defendants, who were detained and prosecuted for the accusation of attempting a coup against DRC President Felix Tshisekedi, has reached a verdict. Among them, 37 individuals, including citizens of the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Canada, have been sentenced to death, while 14 individuals have been acquitted and released.
COUP ATTEMPT IN CONGO
In the DRC, the coup attempt on May 19th was thwarted by security forces. Some of those involved in the coup attempt were killed during clashes with armed individuals in the Goma region of the capital Kinshasa, and the trial of 51 individuals began in a military court.
