In an operation conducted by the Dilovası Municipality, seven municipal officials, including suspended Deputy Mayor Necati Temiz and Acting Zoning Director Nizamettin Balcı, were arrested and sent to prison.
THEY WERE DETAINED IN A SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION
The judicial process regarding the disaster, which began with a fire at a cosmetics factory in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood of Dilovası, Kocaeli, on November 8, resulting in the deaths of seven workers, continues to deepen. As part of the administrative and legal investigation launched after the fire, the Dilovası Municipality has now come under scrutiny. Senior bureaucrats detained in a simultaneous operation by security forces at the municipality were arrested by the court to which they were referred.

SEVEN WORKERS LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE DISASTER
The fire that broke out at the factory belonging to Ravive Kozmetik at around 09:00 AM last year turned into a massacre. In the fire, Şengül Yılmaz (55), Tuğba Taşdemir (18), Nisa Taşdemir (17), Cansu Esetoğlu (16), Esma Gikan (65), Hanım Gülek (65), and Tuncay Yıldız (48) tragically lost their lives. In the first phase of the investigation, eight people, including the workplace owners, were arrested. One of the factory partners, Kurtuluş Oransal, died on November 30 due to a heart attack he suffered in prison while in custody.
SEVEN LIFE SENTENCES REQUESTED
The 97-page indictment prepared by the Gebze Chief Public Prosecutor's Office contained striking details.
In the indictment accepted by the Gebze 7th Heavy Penal Court, seven life sentences are requested for cosmetics company officials Altay Ali, İsmail Oransal, Aleyna Oransal, and Gökberk Güngör for the crime of "intentional homicide with possible intent."
Additionally, for other defendants, including company owners, workplace safety officials, and former and current building owners, prison sentences of up to 22 years and 6 months are sought for the crime of "causing death and injury through conscious negligence"; for suspects including Ali Osman Akat, who are alleged to have helped the company officials flee, prison sentences are requested for the crime of "harboring a criminal."
RELEASE DECISIONS WERE MADE IN THE CASE
In the first hearing of the case held on March 24 at the Gebze 7th Heavy Penal Court, Onay Yürüklü, who transported the fleeing suspects, was released. In the second hearing held on May 22, the court panel decided to release the detained suspects Aleyna Oransal, Ünal Aslan, and Güven Demirbaş, while maintaining the detention of the other five suspects.
As the trial process continues, this latest operation targeting the local government level and the arrest of seven individuals indicate that the chain of responsibility for public officials with negligence in the disaster is also being legally pursued.
