At the Lesovo Customs in Bulgaria, opposite Edirne's Hamzabeyli Border Gate, 708 grams of smuggled gold were found on a passenger who is a Romanian citizen and in their bag during a search of a vehicle with UK plates. While the gold was seized, administrative proceedings were initiated against the suspect.
A car with UK license plates arrived at the Lesovo Customs Office in Bulgaria, opposite the Hamzabeyli Border Gate in Edirne, to travel from England to Cyprus via Turkey, and entered the checkpoint.
FOUND IN PACKAGES
The driver and passengers stated that they had no items to declare with them. During the detailed inspection carried out with the border police teams, packages of jewelry made of yellow metal were found on and in the bag of one of the passengers, a Romanian citizen.
At the request of the customs officials, the examination conducted by an expert determined that the jewelry was made of gold and its total weight was 708 grams. The value of the seized gold was found to be 50,140.56 Euros.
ALL CONFISCATED
While the smuggled gold items were confiscated, an administrative violation notice was issued against the Romanian citizen under the customs law.
