A new species has been added to the different jellyfish species recently seen in the Marmara Sea. Off the coast of Tekirdag, a yellow and brown jellyfish, known among the public as the 'fried egg jellyfish,' was spotted near the sea surface.

RESEMBLED TO A FRIED EGG

With the increase in water temperatures, the Cotylorhiza tuberculata species of jellyfish, known among the public as "fried egg" or "blueish," was seen off the coast of Tekirdag.

Citizens who went out to sea off the coast of Tekirdag noticed the striking jellyfish on the water surface. The jellyfish, drawing attention with its round body and numerous arms, moved along the sea surface with the current for a while. Those moments were captured on a mobile phone camera.

It was stated that the jellyfish seen belongs to a species found in warm seas. It was noted that this species is commonly seen in the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea, and has also been previously encountered on the southern coasts of the Marmara Sea.

The jellyfish, referred to by different names among the public due to its appearance, features a dome-like round body and numerous extensions underneath, which are among its most distinctive characteristics.
