A 74-year-old man, who is being tried in detention for drug trafficking along with his son in Kocaeli, stated that the drugs found in the house belonged to him, saying, "I have been using drugs since I was 16, for 45 years."
As part of the efforts to prevent drug trafficking in Kocaeli, law enforcement agencies conducted physical surveillance. As a result of the surveillance, drugs were seized during a search at the residence of S.Ç. (74) and his son E.Ç. (41), who live in the same house. While the materials were confiscated, the father and son were taken into custody. After the statements were taken, both suspects were arrested and sent to prison.
"I DON'T KNOW WHO THE DRUGS BELONG TO"
The first hearing of the case opened regarding the incident began at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court. The detained defendants and their lawyers attended the hearing. E.Ç., who did not accept the charges, stated, "I live with my father. The drugs found in the house do not belong to me. I do not accept the charge of drug trafficking. I do not know to whom they belong."
"I HAVE BEEN USING DRUGS FOR 45 YEARS"
S.Ç. claimed that the drugs found in the house belonged to him, saying, "I am not a dealer, I am a user. I have been using drugs since I was 16, for 45 years. The drugs belong to me. They usually sell it for 20,000 TL, but I bought it in bulk for 12,000 TL when I found it reasonable. I am not engaged in trafficking. I bought it for my own use," he said.
The court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendants and postponed the hearing.
