Eren Uzuner, who shot and killed Fatma Özdemir, the object of his unrequited love, and his friend Barkın Perçin with a gun, injuring three others including one police officer, stated in his defense at the court, "They read my mind with artificial intelligence. Is this legal?"
Eren Uzuner, who works as a driver in a home goods sales store in the Süleymanpaşa district of Tekirdağ, saw Fatma Özdemir, whom he works with and has a platonic love for, sitting with his friend Barkın Perçin in front of a tea house near the workplace on October 4, 2024.

Uzuner approached Özdemir and Perçin, who were sitting on a stool, and opened fire with the gun he was carrying. Fatma Özdemir and Barkın Perçin were injured by the bullets that hit their bodies. Eren Uzuner then returned to the store with the weapon in his hand and shot and injured his coworkers, a woman named N.Ç.K. and S.D. Uzuner then got into the store's delivery vehicle and fled. While escaping, Eren Uzuner injured one of the police officers who stopped his vehicle. Among the injured taken to the hospital, Özdemir and Perçin lost their lives.

Eren Uzuner, who was arrested, was charged with 'intentional murder' and faced two aggravated life sentences, as well as charges of 'attempted murder.' The trial of Eren Uzuner continued today with the second hearing at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court. The detained defendant Uzuner connected to the hearing via SEGBİS from the prison where he is held. Relatives of Fatma Özdemir and Barkın Perçin, as well as the parties' lawyers, were present at the hearing. In his defense, Uzuner repeated his previous statements about 'artificial intelligence,' saying, "They read my mind with artificial intelligence. Is this legal? I will not say anything else."

Fatma Özdemir's father, Kemal Özdemir, who is imprisoned for a crime, was brought to the hearing under the escort of gendarmerie. Özdemir stated that the suspect took his beloved daughter away from life, saying, "I entrust him to God first and then to you. I want him to receive an aggravated life sentence." Özdemir's sister, Selen Özdemir, also expressed her wish for the suspect to receive the heaviest penalty. Mustafa Perçin, the father of Barkın Perçin, said, "The suspect killed my son despite not knowing him. He should receive a punishment that prevents him from ever getting out again."
The court panel decided to obtain institutional reports regarding the extent of the injuries sustained by S.D., who was injured in the incident, and adjourned the hearing.
