In the South American country of Ecuador, a 9-month-old baby, whose mother was killed in a shooting, was accidentally noticed by a passerby while crawling on a deserted road. According to a report in the national press, in the Atahualpa and Ancon neighborhoods of Santa Elena province, a person found the crawling 9-month-old baby on a road with sparse traffic. Upon notification, operational units of the Ecuador National Police, who arrived at the scene, determined that the nearby corpse belonged to the baby's mother.

After the investigation, it was confirmed that the 9-month-old baby's mother, 28-year-old Rosa Yanina Vargas, was shot dead.
According to the police assessment, Vargas was ambushed by assailants and subjected to a hail of bullets.
The baby was handed over to her grandmother after hospital checks. It was reported that the baby's father had passed away a few months ago due to illness. In Ecuador, which has been struggling with violence since last year, 700 people have been murdered since the beginning of the year.
