A chemical explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in the Indian state of Telangana has led to a major disaster. At least 44 people have died in the fire that broke out after the explosion, and many others are still missing.

The factory, owned by Sigachi Industries, was located in the Pashamylaram industrial area of the Sangareddy district. More than 140 workers were inside at the time of the incident. Over 60 were directly affected at the moment of the explosion; some managed to escape the flames, but 17 people are still unaccounted for.

The explosion was so powerful that the building completely collapsed. The fire spread rapidly, preventing workers from escaping. At least 25 people were hospitalized; some suffered serious burns, while others inhaled toxic gas.

A large-scale search and rescue operation has been launched at the scene. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and heavy machinery is being used to clear the debris. Authorities are still investigating whether there are bodies under the rubble.

A 32-year-old worker at the factory recounted that he was in the restroom during the explosion and heard a loud bang. "When I saw the fire, I jumped over the wall and ran away. But many people were trapped inside," he said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. Initial findings suggest that the explosion may have occurred due to a buildup of pressure in a device used inside the factory. Fine chemical dust in the air may have exacerbated the explosion.

Sigachi Industries produces a substance called microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). This substance is used in many sectors, including pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics. The company exports to many countries, from the USA to Australia. The facility where the explosion occurred accounted for a significant portion of the company's annual production.

The company announced that it has halted production for the next 90 days due to the severe damage to the factory.

The Chief Minister of Telangana has ordered a thorough inspection of all chemical factories to prevent a similar incident from occurring.

Immediately following this disaster, another tragedy occurred in the Central African Republic. In the capital city of Bangui, an electrical transformer exploded during an exam at a high school. As a result of the panic that ensued after the explosion, at least 29 students lost their lives, and more than 250 students were injured.
