Serdar Kandırmaz, who went to the Ayaş district of Ankara to collect mushrooms in a field, picked up a rusty object he found on the ground, thinking it was a piece of an electrical transformer. Suspecting the heavy and oddly shaped structure of the object he carried for about 20 meters, Kandırmaz panicked when he realized it was an artillery shell. Upon notification, bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene and, after taking security precautions in the area, safely destroyed the munition in a controlled manner. The sound of the explosion was heard even in nearby villages.

HE CARRIED IT FOR 20 METERS, EXPERIENCED THE SHOCK OF HIS LIFE
The incident occurred in the Ayaş district. Serdar Kandırmaz, who went to the field to pick mushrooms, saw a rusted object on the ground. Assuming it was a part from the area's electrical transformers, Kandırmaz picked up the object and carried it for 20 meters. Suspicious of the weight and shape of the object he was carrying, Kandırmaz realized it was an artillery shell and experienced the shock of his life.
IT WAS CONTROLLEDLY DESTROYED
Following the report, explosive ordnance disposal experts arrived at the scene. After extensive security measures were taken around the area, the unexploded munition was controllably destroyed. The sound of the explosion was heard from miles away, while the moments Kandırmaz carried the munition in his hands highlighted how close they were to a potential disaster.

Serdar Kandırmaz said, "At first, I thought it was a piece of iron, picked it up, and carried it. Then it 'dawned' on me that it was an artillery shell. I immediately put it on soft ground and ran away, then reported it to the teams."
