President Erdoğan, who hosted Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeydi at Beştepe, gave the good news at the joint press conference. Stating that an agreement was signed with Iraq, especially on energy cooperation, Erdoğan said that Iraq would give Turkey 1 million barrels of oil per day. At that moment, Erdoğan's remark to Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, "The Prime Minister says, 'We can give Turkey one million barrels of oil per day. You won't need it from anywhere else.'" drew attention.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi, who visited Turkey, with an official ceremony. Following a one-on-one meeting and inter-delegation talks, the two leaders made statements at a joint press conference. President Erdogan stated that agreements were made with Iraq and that 1 million barrels of oil per day would be given to Turkey.
Highlights from President Erdogan's statements are as follows:
"We exchanged views on regional developments, particularly in Iran, Syria, and Palestine. We are in close dialogue with our Iraqi brothers to turn our vision of a terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region into reality. With God's will, we will permanently remove this issue, which has cost both countries dearly, from our agenda. On the other hand, we are ready to do our part in supplying the defense industry products Iraq needs.
This war environment drives us to deepen our cooperation not only in defense but also in energy and transportation. We see the progress of the Development Road Project, which aims to connect with the world via Iraq. We are pleased to observe that the Prime Minister has a strong will on this matter. The Iraq-Turkey Crude Oil Pipeline Agreement expired as of yesterday. Now, our goal is to sign a comprehensive energy cooperation agreement that will benefit both sides as soon as possible.
Partnership in the Kirkuk production field has been granted to Turkish Petroleum. The agreement signed today is a historic step in terms of energy cooperation.
Esteemed members of the press, as two neighboring countries affected by climate change, our will to advance our cooperation on the sustainable use of water is complete. At this point, Turkey is doing its part, viewing the water issue as a permanent area of cooperation based on rational, scientific, and humanitarian grounds. We aim to elevate our trade volume, which approached 17 billion dollars with Iraq last year, to much higher levels. In this context, I would like to express that I find it extremely important for the ministers in the Prime Minister's delegation to come together with a large delegation consisting of our businesspeople, contractors, and investors.
One million barrels of oil per day will be given to Turkey. The Prime Minister said, 'We can give oil to Turkey. One million barrels. Do not depend on others.' Yes, Mr. Minister, there is no need to depend on others around. It is our immediate neighbor. With God's will, when we transfer one million barrels of oil here, we will cover our needs. May it be auspicious."
